Boekhandel Jimmink
Experience:
Boekhandel Jimmink is a bookshop that has stopped in time. Rows upon rows of books tightly packed together, forming a cohesive mess of stories. Quaint Dutch Music plays in the background as you look for a book and a charming ringing occurs when someone enters the store. The owners truly care about the store and are happy to tell you about any book, making you feel right at home.
Favorite Aspect:
My favorite aspect was the vast selection of books arrayed in an organized chaos. The Children's Stories and Cookbook sections are immense and the Bookshop features books in many languages. There is also a long shelf with stories of social justice and people fighting for what they believe in. This sense of activism is powerful given this store's history. Boekhandel Jimmink is famously the store where Anne Frank's father bought her the diary which she would write in. Her diary became one of the most translated books ever, helping the world understand the atrocities of the Nazi Genocide. The shop does a great job of making it clear and respecting the past while also including stories that help tell how we can make our world a better place.
