Spotty Dog Books & Ale
Experience:
Spotty Dog Books & Ale is a bookshop and bar combo that provides an exceptional experience for anyone looking to grab a new book or beverage! The shop, along the main drag in picturesque and artsy Hudson, New York, was a former firehouse, so the character and quirks remain prevalent. When entering, you’ll notice an ornate wooden ceiling decked out with a rustic metal mixed with the brick walls at both front and back ends. Beyond the bar and book space is a bonus room that is filled with craft and art supplies. It is clear that the space is welcome to anyone who comes through the door, and the balloon “PRIDE” display (taken during the end of Pride Month) further supported the inclusivity felt within.
Favorite Aspect:
I may be a sucker for any bookshop that doubles as a drink space, but this one really does it well! The setup of the shop makes it so the first person you will likely greet is one behind a large wooden bar, which sets up a homeliness and comfort that helps to define the space well. There is a familiarity and extra personality that comes along with the large chalkboard and handwritten taps. This bodes well for a shop that opens up with friendliness then lets you get into your own zone exploring the filled shelves beyond. Check it out!
