The Montague Bookmill
Experience
The Montague Bookmill is a former grist mill turned used book store in Montague, MA in the woods and along flowing water. The space is MASSIVE and well-broken up with books for any interest. If you’re just looking for a space to walk around and take-in, this is definitely somewhere to just wander and seek out something fresh.
Their motto very accurately sums up the experience of shopping at off-the-beaten-path bookshops: “Books you don’t need in a place you can’t find.” When found, it is very much a wonderful experience in a picturesque location.
Favorite Aspect
We absolutely loved the different rooms and levels throughout the shop. Each room felt stepping into a different place with books arranged in different styles depending on the genre. Some of the rooms were lined with books right up with where you were walking, while others were spread out in an open and airy space. It was a place to spend a great amount of time seeking out treasures throughout. Check out the coffee shop and music store down below the covered bridge area for additional fun! One of the stairways had old typewriters and a scale model of the mill, which was a fun easter egg to discover.
