The Bookstore of Gloucester
Experience
The Bookstore of Gloucester has been a mainstay of this city for fifty years. The focus is on new publications set in a lovely historic building in downtown Gloucester. Some of the walls are bare brick, while others are painted turquoise, making it feel like the sea. There is a wonderful mural that includes mermaids and large fish, highlighting this historic seaport city. There are also unexpected surprises, such as the grandfather clock gracing the rear wall near the windows.
Featured prominently is a large selection of books about Gloucester, and the Cape Ann area in both fiction and non-fiction works. There are also crafts for sale by local artisans. Popular books are featured in the window and the front of the shop.
This book shop was an unexpected pleasure and the proprietor was more than happy to answer any questions.
Favorite Aspect
The children's book section is quite large, and runs the gamut from bright board books to chapter books for older readers. Toys and other gift items are displayed to entice children of all ages.
