Dogtown Books

Experience

Dogtown Books is a Main Street staple on this busy thoroughfare in downtown Gloucester. The bookshop's name comes from an abandoned community in Gloucester, which still attracts curious visitors. Before even entering the shop, you have the opportunity to browse the outside book trucks, which include many books for $1.00, as well as free books in the Little Library. Once inside, it's as if you stepped into a classic bookshop of the past, with books covering all walls and spaces, some even stored in unusual pieces of furniture. Books are shelved by category, with a large children's area in the back. It's almost impossible not to find something to buy in this extensive collection of mostly used, and rare books.

Favorite Sections

One area of note is the "Cape Anne" section near the front of the long shop. Here one may find both new and older publications about this historic area north of Boston. Another favorite spot is the children's section which invites kids of all ages to peruse both the books and related material.
